چکیده

The effects of UV synchrotron radiation on deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) cast films have been systematically investigated by vacuum ultraviolet and infrared spectrophotometry as a function of irradiation time. Cast DNA films exposed at 140 nm (8.85 eV) for different irradiations times, revealed consistent changes in their VUV spectra which indicate a decrease of thymine groups and an increase of π π* transition spectral signature associated with the C=O group of the open sugar chain. This result was corroborated by a decrease in C-O stretching vibration at 1061 cm observed in the infrared spectra. Both these results are consistent with the creation of single strand breaks in the deoxyribose component of DNA molecule and a decrease in the phosphate groups. It was also shown that UV radiation is effective in damaging the thymine groups involved in Hoogsteen base pairing with adenine. The analysis of the infrared data suggests that the usual spectroscopic fingerprints of DNA denaturation are not necessarily a reliable measure of DNA damage.

Photo-electrocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanotubes prepared with two-step anodization and treated under UV light irradiation

To improve the photo-catalytic degradation of salicylic acid, we reported the fabrication of ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays by a simple and effective two-step anodization method and then these TiO2 nanotubes treated in a methanol solution under UV light irradiation. The TiO2 nanotubes prepared in the two-step anodization process showed better photo-catalytic activity than TiO2 nanotubes prepared ...

Kinetic modeling on photo oxidative degradation of C.I acid yellow 23 by UV/H_2 O_2 process

The kinetic of photo oxidative decolorization of C.I. Acid yellow 23 (AY23) was investigated in UV/ process. The semi-logarithmic of the concentrations of AY23 versus irradiation time were linear, suggesting pseudo-first order reaction. A simple kinetic model is proposed which confirms pseudo- first order reaction. The results indicate that the apparent reaction rate constant is a function of l...

Optimization and kinetic evaluation of acid blue 193 degradation by UV/peroxydisulfate oxidation using response surface methodology

The optimization of process conditions for the degradation of Acid Blue 193 by UV/peroxydisulfate was investigated using response surface methodology (RSM). The effects of four parameters namely initial K2S2O8 concentration, UV irradiation, temperature, and initial dye concentration on two process responses, color removal and the rate constants of the first-order kinetic equations, were investi...

Endonuclease from Micrococcus luteus which has activity toward ultraviolet-irradiated deoxyribonucleic acid: its action on transforming deoxyribonucleic acid.

An endonuclease purified from Micrococcus luteus makes single-strand breaks in ultraviolet (UV)-irradiated, native deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). The purified endonuclease is able to reactivate UV-inactivated transforming DNA of Haemophilus influenzae, especially when the DNA is assayed on a UV-sensitive mutant of H. influenzae. After extensive endonuclease action, there is a loss of transforming...
